Would you like to get to know some of our refugee families? Several will be speaking at the Celebrating our BR4R Community event at Tintenbar Hall on June 15.

They include 14-year-old Nada, who is finding life in the Northern Rivers very different from her old life in Syria.

Russell Eldridge, retired journalist and now BR4R Publicity Co-ordinator, will chair a panel discussion, which will include Nada’s father, Foaad, and Juan-Carlos from Venezuela. Both will speak about their experiences, challenges and triumphs since arriving here.

The panel will also include members of Community Supporter Groups (CSGs) who will explain some of the ways in which they support the day-to-day needs of the families.

Time will be allocated for you to ask questions of the speakers.

You’ll also see a short slide show of what you, as members and volunteers, have been contributing to BR4R’s work.

And finally, but just as important, is the opportunity to chat and get to know each other over a cuppa. Tea, coffee and some food will be provided, but if you could bring a small contribution, that would be much appreciated. I have my fingers crossed for more of that delicious ginger slice we had at the Smokey Fields concert.

This is a free event, but please RSVP via Humanitix so that we can provide you with a name tag and a chair.

See you at 2pm at Tintenbar Hall on June 15, or 1.30 if you’re attending the Special General Meeting.
