Knowing how to swim is an Australian essential, and the Lismore Region Refugee Settlement group’s new family are diving right in.

With a steamy Lismore summer knocking on the door, the entire family is taking swimming lessons.

The Hazara family of a mother and five children are originally from Afghanistan and came to Australia via Iran.

The Lismore group (LRRS) welcomed them in July and the family have wasted no time in adapting to their new lives.

The children are spread between Lismore High School and Wyrallah Primary School and by all accounts are excelling.

The second-eldest girl has a job already – working in a pie shop making goodies for the pie cart in Magellan St.

“They are settling in so well,” says Anne Tuart of the LRRS. “They are an absolute delight to be with.”
